Annual School Law Conference

On Friday, August 2, the 58th Mid-Hudson School Study Council law conference will take place at SUNY New Paltz. This event is the longest running law conference dedicated to educational issues. The Council is proud of the long-standing history and tradition that this conference holds in the educational community and the state.

This year, the Council is pleased to announce that the conference will begin with an opening general session, presented by David Sciarra, Executive Director of the Campaign for Fiscal Equity. Mr. Sciarra’s presentation will focus on the Funding of Public Education:An American Disgrace.

Immediately following the opening session there will be three breakout sessions.

Michael Lambert, First Vice President, NYSASA, Shaw, Perelson, May & Lambert, LLP, will address, Compliance with Dignity Act and FAPE for Classified Students.
David Shaw, Shaw, Perelson, May & Lambert, LLP, will lead a discussion on, High Stakes Collective Bargaining: Tax Levy Limit, Affordable Care Act and APPR.
James Drohan, from the law firm of Thomas, Drohan, Waxman, Petigrow & Mayle, LLP will address the topic of, The Do’s and Don’ts of Emails for Trustees and District Employees.
The conference will conclude with a general session led by Jay Worona, General Counsel,
New York State School Boards Association. Mr. Worona will provide those in attendance with, An Update on Court Decisions, Laws, and Regulations.

This conference promises to be enlightening, informative and very interesting. We invite and encourage board members, central administration and building level staff to take the time to attend this event.
